Sutter Buttes Guardian Home Program:

When we first started out at Sutter Buttes our original goal was to be a very small home based breeding program. We quickly realized that the demand for these popular breeds was much higher than we had originally anticipated. Eager to expand our program our moral code remained the same. We would not have a kennel based program....it was just not what we envisioned for our beautiful dogs. Our goal became to have everyone of our breeding dogs raised in loving homes living the lives of pampered pets. Thus, the Sutter Buttes Guardian Home Program was born.

In a nutshell, Sutter Buttes usually retains 1-2 puppies per litter to replenish their breeding stock. Because we do not have a kennel based program we simply cannot house multiple dogs. When you choose to become part of our Guardian Program Sutter Buttes places you with a pick of the litter puppy at 8 weeks of age. For a security fee of $500 this puppy becomes your new family pet. You will raise this puppy as your own while we pay for all reproductive testing for this puppy between the ages of 10-12 months of age.

If your dog does not pass it’s health testing within the standards required of Sutter Buttes breeding dogs you will simply pay for the spay or neuter of your dog and the dog will retire from our breeding program and remain with you for no additional fee. If your dog passes it’s health testing it will become a breeding dog for Sutter Buttes. If you are a guardian family to a female dog she will deliver between 3-4 litters for Sutter Buttes. She will remain with you throughout her pregnancy and stay with us while she delivers and weans her puppies. Once she has had 3-4 litters you will have her spayed per the Guardian Home Program Contract and she will retire with you for no additional fee.

If you are a guardian family for one of our stud boys life is a little less complicated. Once he passes his reprodutive testing we will usually just have him collected at our local International Canine Semen Bank in Grass Valley, CA. Then we can use him at any time with our girls via Artifical Insemination. There may be times when natural breeding is required but we will notify you in advance. Once we have determined we have used your boy to the fullest potential in terms of our breeding program you will have him neutered per the Guardian Home Program Contract and he will retire with you at no additional fee.
